It's Time for a Revolution...
We are Yokaan Games Studio, the not-for-profit, hobbyist game development team with revolution on our minds. We intend to build a next-generation revolution by providing free/low-cost and fun games to players without the common greedy practices of large gaming companies, all while getting back to the roots of the games industry to rediscover what made games from the "golden age of gaming" so great. We are all sick of the greed of most triple-A game developers, so we've set out to reach for the impossible: become a big-name developer while maintaining a humble and caring approach to our players. We are all gamers ourselves, so we aim to provide the best possible experience for others - gamers and non-gamers alike.
One thing we believe in is that the industry has become stale. Not only do greedy developers and constant complaining by "haters" limit the potential of the future of gaming, but between the earlier days of retro gaming and now, we've lost a lot of the charm that was present in video games. Remember the "good ol' days"? We aim to bring that feel back. This doesn't mean we're attempting to downgrade everything to look like the past generations of video games, but it does mean that we're trying to recapture the feel. Developers back then didn't have all of the fancy-pants technology we have today; they had to be creative with everything they did, working with all they had, to create as fun of an experience as was possible back then. The result was an era where many games were so fun that people still play them even into today. Meanwhile, modern games are growing more and more stale as developers focus primarily on graphics above a good story and fun gameplay.
To achieve our ambitious goals, we ensure our team is comprised of gamers: dedicated and passionate individuals who love video games and everything about them. Each one of the team members operates from the comfort of their own home on their own time schedules, which allows for the team to focus less on bureaucracy or formality and more on creativity. While most work-from-home teams do not gain much of a reputation, we strive to do things differently in order to make a name for ourselves in the gaming world. We are passionate about what we do, and we intend to innovate and revolutionize the future of game development wherever we can. With nearly ten years of operation under our belt, we have lasted much longer than most teams similar to our own, and we believe this is a pure testament to our passion and drive towards making a difference.
Where many game teams seek only to obtain money, and care less about the means of doing so, we're all gamers, so we understand the frustration of business coming into game development. We do not have investors or shareholders, nor are we a registered corporation. We're simply a group of passionate gamers and game developers who view games as a form of art, coming together to develop great games. However, don't make the mistake of assuming that we're not serious about what we do just because we're not making money. We are all dedicated to creating high-quality video games. We develop games for people, not profit, which is what truly makes us different!

Our StoryIn the past five years, we have grown from a one-manned team to a small team of passionate gamers making games. In early 2009, founder and director, Jacob Fields, created a small forum for gaming which never accomplished much beyond a few discussions. After discovering the Sphere game engine and game development in general, he decided to use the forum and establish a small game development team. Over time, he became appalled at how the industry had started to become, and he wanted to make a difference, so he set out to try to turn his dreams into reality. Originally using the name, Joquan Games Studios -- the result of what he thought was his first name in Tolkien's elvish script -- he gathered like-minded individuals to help him with this dream.
We've been able to release one full game, as well as a full expansion which received favorable reviews from indy gamers, and we're currently hard at work at creating more games for players to enjoy for free. We celebrated our ninth birthday in April 2018, and we're ready to take on whatever the future throws at us! |
You Can HelpDo you like what we have in mind? Want to help us out? You can help by simply playing our games, writing reviews about them, and telling your friends about them! All of our current games are free, and if we ever decide to start charging for them, we plan on operating as a non-profit organization. And don't worry, even if we began to create paid games, we'd still make free games too! You would be assured your money wouldn't be feeding greedy oligarchs. The funds that we would keep would be used mainly for operating costs, and maybe thrown into salaries and benefits so we could bring more people onto our team.
Of course, if you want to help more directly, you could join our team. By joining our team, you'd be able to be proud to be taking part in one of the world's most unique gaming organizations that has potential to reach high heights. We have plenty of openings that you can fill, and each position is important to the process of developing great games. If you have a passion for games and share our views, you can help us make our mission possible: help us carve a name for ourselves in the history of gaming. |
